Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has hinted that there could be a start for Connor Wickham against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.

Goals have been very scarce for the Black Cats of late with them finding the net just three times in the last seven games and that`s not the type of form that will see Sunderland beat the drop come the end of the season.

So in his search for a solution to his lack of goals in the team, Poyet has hinted that Wickham could be given a chance to make a big name for himself.

It doesn`t help Poyet that Steven Fletcher is injured, Fabio Borini is ineligible and Jozy Altidore couldn`t hit a barn door with a ground to barn door seeking missile.

Poyet told the Sunderland Echo: “We`ve been trying different things, different situations.

“Fabio is not available tomorrow, so I`m going to keep trying different things. Connor is an option.”

He added: “It`s my job to keep searching for the solution and then you know you`ve done everything.”

Wickham made five appearances recently for Leeds United, but failed to score during his stay. However during his loan at Sheffield Wednesday he scored for fun.
