Aston Villa are launching an appeal to have Fabian Delph’s red card picked up in the game against Sunderland on Sunday rescinded.
The 25-year-old was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Jordi Gomez and Villa manager Paul Lambert was none to pleased about it claiming that the player is not dirty and the tackle was not worth a straight red.
The longer you look at the incident via replays, the worse it seems to look but I have to admit that even as a Sunderland fan, I found it hard to see why a yellow card was not given.
Lambert is hopeful that the decision will go Villa’s way, he told reporters: ‘I thought it was a harsh red card and we think three games is excessive. ‘Fabian hasn’t gone in maliciously at all. I can kind of understand why the referee’s done it, but I still think it’s excessive.’
