It’s not known at this point whether Sebastian Larsson and Liam Bridcutt will be fit to make the trip to Manchester City on New Years Day.

Bridcutt lasted just 19 minutes of the game against Aston Villa on Sunday, he came of worse in a colision with Christian Benteke.

‘Liam has concussion, and with the new rules you need to be careful.’ – Gus Poyet.

Larsson lasted longer, he got to the 57th minute before having to be withdrawn with an ankle knock which later proved to be ligament damage.

When asked by reporters if the pair would be fit for the City game, Poyet said: ‘I don’t know. We’ll wait and see.

‘We’ve got plenty of players back now, so we can cope with the situation better.

‘Seb has twisted his ankle. It is ligament damage, but nothing serious – a few days.’
