Vergini Announcement Expected Soon

Santiago Vergini could be the second player to sign for Sunderland in 24 hours, this time on loan.

The 26 year old was at the club’s Academy on Tuesday for a medical and to thrash out personal terms, if all goes well he should be revealed as a signing today (Wednesday).

The Argentine defender, who was at the Stadium of Light on loan last season, has to wait for paperwork to come through from South America before the announcement can be made, but nothing is expected to go wrong because of the loan spell.

One major factor in the deal has been who owns Vergini, Uruguayan club Atletico Fenix and Argentine side Estudiantes are on his papers and that’s why Poyet has had to settle for the player on another loan spell.

“We know Santi well and he was always one of the first choices,” said Poyet last week.
