Sunderland will be appealing against the red card that Wes Brown was shown on Saturday at Old Trafford.

Brown received the blame when Falcao went down in the box, he was shown a red card and a penalty was awarded to Manchester United.

But John O’Shea insists now, and at the time that it was him who committed the foul and it should have been himself that was sent off.

It was thought that it was a simple case of mistaken identity at first, but referee Roger East insists that he got the right man.

TV cameras show that O’Shea was indeed the one who made contact with Falcao and a statement on Sunderland’s official website read: ‘SAFC has confirmed that it will appeal the red card given to Wes Brown in yesterday’s Barclays Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.’
