The man who scored the two goals that sank Sunderland, Wayne Rooney, insists that Wes Brown’s card must be rescinded after he was sent off in controversial fashion at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The game was overshadowed by referee Roger East`s ridiculous decision to send Brown off when TV Cameras clearly show that it was John O’Shea who committed the foul that caused Falcao to go down in the box.

In a statement released via the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), East insisted it was not a case of mistaken identity and he did in fact mean to send Brown off.

But Rooney, who shared a dressing room with both players during their time at Old Trafford is sure the referee made a mistake.

He told Sky Sports: “I don`t think it was Wes – it looked like Sheasy so the referee has got it wrong and I`m sure they will look at that and rescind Wes` red card.’
