Sunderland have made a move to sign Napoli’s Dutch international Jonathan de Guzman on loan according to a report.

The Daily Mail says that Sunderland have been in talks with Napoli and the aim is to get the 27 year old midfielder on an initial loan deal with a view to signing the player on a permanent deal that would cost the Black Cats £3.5m.

The paper also reports that the former Swansea player had been in talks over a move to Marseille, but they have now signed Newcastle’s Reme Cabella.

Sunderland can raise the cash for the purchase of de Guzman by selling Emanuele Giaccherini who has the choice of joining Sampdoria of Bologna who are both interested in gaining his services and a move would greatly improve his chances of playing in Euro 2016.
