The second string draw 2-2 at the AOL…

Steve Caldwell, Robbie Elliot, William Mocquet and Arnau Riera all had a run out in another unofficial-friendly-competitive-reserve fixture against Darlington yesterday.

With names straight from a New York cop film, youth strikers Martyn Waghorn and Billy Dennehy were the scorers for Sunderland as we raced into a 2-0 lead after only 30 minutes played.

However a strong Darlington side featuring ex-Premiership striker Julian Joachim fought back to make it 2-2 before half time.

The ever-prolific and follically challenged Barry Conlon got one back in the 43rd minute while Joachim equalised on the stroke of half time with probably the only header the diminutive (i.e. dwarfish) frontman has scored in his whole career.

Quinny’s missing signings watch: William Mocquet had another decent display full of his usual running and created the second goal. Arnau’s full 90 minutes means that he will almost certainly still not be involved with first team matters on Friday.

Kevin Richardson’s mind-blowing post-match analysis: ‘Conditions were bad but my players threw the game away by giving away two goals just before half time.’ Deep.

Sunderland: Carson, Kay, Caldwell (R. Smith 70), Hartley, R. Elliott, Mocquet (Chapman 80), Arnau, Weir(Chandler 80), Richardson, Dennehy, Waghorn.
