Sunderland goalkeeper Darren Ward has insisted that the team really don’t give a monkeys when it comes to the history between the two opposition managers in this Fridays Championship encounter.

Well you know what Wardy, don’t tell Sky, but the fans don’t care either. We just want three points.

‘I don’t mean to be rude or disrespectful in any way to either manager, but in all honesty I’m just not interested.

‘As far as I can see, what happened with them happened a long time ago and has already been well documented.

‘I’m just not interested in what will happen in terms of them meeting up on the night, because the football game is all that is important.’

Ironically, of all of Quinny’s signings before Keano arrived, it is the ever calming and impressive presence of Wardy in goal who has had the most success, with Hysen, Riera, Elliot and co struggling to make a real impression on Keane.

However, since replacing a shaky Ben Alnwick several games ago, Wardy has performed admirably, in particular a fantastic performance at home to Southampton.

But what most impresses most fans is that he does all the expected things expertly. Collecting crosses, quick off his line but on it when he needs to be, swift, effective delivery from his hands, capable kicking with both feet, and over all, a strong character when organising his defence.

While young Alnwick clearly has talent, he does come lacking on several of these traits.

And an ever-popular Wardy has gone further to get more of the fans on his side by agreeing wholeheartedly that the media coverage of the forthcoming clash is one of drama-queen proportions.

‘We are going to Wolves to play another important game in our season, and the only thing it’s about in my mind is the football – that’s it.

‘I won’t even be considering anything else and I’ve got absolutely no doubt that the same goes for the rest of the squad.’

We could almost hear the cries of despair from Sky Sports studios when Mick McCarthy and Keane both recently admitted that they’d spoken and patched things up, and will both shake hands without problem at the end of the game.

No doubt this won’t stop Murdoch’s Minnions zooming in on the end of the match handshake and the cliché-ometer regarding revenge, battles and head-to-heads will be into overdrive.

Reports that Keane has been offered a book deal entitled ‘If i said it’ are thought to be wide of the mark however.

But back to Ward, as when speaking to Radio Newcastle the other day he not only mentioned a common sense call for consistency,

‘We need to achieve the consistency that will give us a platform to go on and win games on a regular basis.’

..but then went a bit mental and suggested that Chris Brown and co resembled, erm, Pele and co.

‘We almost played like Pele’s Brazil for a good hour, and then came the other side of us where we dropped off a bit.’

Well they always do say that goalkeepers are a bit mad. You just stick to keeping the goals out Daz.
