Wayne Rooney is rated doubtful for the game against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Rooney has been suffering from Groin and stomach complaints which means that Robin van Persie looks set to return to the front line.
Rooney has said that he will be fit enough to face the Black Cats, even though he pulled out of training this week but interim manager Ryan Giggs is not to sure just at the moment.
Giggs said at Friday’s press conference: ‘He has a bug and a tight groin too. But Wayne being Wayne, he wants to play.’
Van Persie could return for the first time since he suffered a knee injury in the 3-0 win over Olympiacos in mid-March, a game in which he scored a hat-trick.
Giggs reported he has trained well all week and could play some part in the game.
