A disappointed Jordi Gomez says that Sunderland had chances to be in the lead on Saturday by the time Manchester United got a penalty.

‘They were in control but they weren`t creating many clear chances. But after that it was a different game.’ – Jordi Gomez

There was chances for the visitors as their was for the home side in the first 25 minutes of the game with Connor Wickham and Jermain Defoe both being guilty of not taking full advantage.

But once the penalty had been converted by Wayne Rooney and Wes Brown went for an early shower, things just got worse for the Black Cats.

United began to run the game and it was inevitable that they would get another goal, Rooney provided that one as well.

Gomez spoke towww.chroniclelive.co.uk saying: “We were into the game before the sending off.

“They were in control but they weren`t creating many clear chances. But after that it was a different game.

“We had two or three clear chances at the start but we had to take those chances if we wanted to take something from the game. We didn`t take those chances, so after the penalty and the red card it became very difficult for us.

“We knew we would have some chances, and we knew it was important we took them.”
