Fans have voted in favour of Niall Quinn’s first signing at Sunderland…
40% of you believe that Cunningham is a solid signing that will improve the side, while 13% of voters claimed to be very happy with the free signing from Birmingham.

Not all of you are convinced however, with 12% believing him to be simply an ‘average’ signing, despite having played at the top level of English football for the last 9 years. Another 12% of you felt the signing was a pointless straight like-for-like swap for Gary Breen, released by Sunderland at the end of last season. The Republic of Ireland defender has now signed for Mick McCarthy at Wolves.
23% were either massively underwhelmed or astonished by Quinn’s signing, showing that not all fans are backing Quinn on this one, and meaning that Cunningham has a lot to prove to Sunderland fans, many of whom may still be reeling after the last signing of an experienced centre back went pear-shaped, that of wantaway Evertonian Alan Stubbs. Hopefully Kenny can leave a better impression on Wearside than Stubbs did.
