Daryl Murphy and Sean Taylor were on target as Sunderland’s reserve side beat Liverpool 2-1 in Durham tonight.
A young Sunderland side began well and it was Irishman Daryl Murhpy who put them in the lead on 18 minutes with a well exectuted header.
However on 37 minutes Liverpool equalised with a well taken goal from youngster Adam Hammill.
Chances were created by both sides throughout but as none were taken the game seemed to be heading for a draw, until Sunderland were awarded a late penalty.
Forward David Dowson, who replaced Murphy at half time, was fouled by Liverpool keeper David Martin, and the spot kick was put away confidently by Sean Taylor.
