Swansea are hoping to ward off interest in Ashley Williams from Sunderland by offering him a new and improved contract.

Sunderland have already made one bid for the player and they are expecting a new bid from the Black Cats.

The Journal reports that the new offer for Williams will go in sometime during the next week and will be around the £4.5 million mark.

Williams has just one year left on his current deal and he has been mulling over trying a fresh challenge with a new club, but the Welsh outfit will be doing what they can to keep him at the Liberty Stadium.

Hull City and QPR are also said to be interested and are keeping a close eye on developments.
