Sunderland have a problem which means they may have to cash in on Connor Wickham during the summer as he has yet shown no intentions of signing a new deal.

The Black Cats will not want Wickham to run down his contract that has just twelve months left or he could then leave for a fee that would be set by a tribunal, instead they would rather sell now and get back most of the fee they paid Ipswich which at the moment is rising towards the £12 million mark.

Ideally, Sunderland would much sooner get the player tied down on a new contract and see if his rise in form can carry on next season.

Gus Poyet gave Wickham his big chance to prove himself last season when he brought him back from a loan spell at Leeds United which the player grasped with both hands.
