Sunderland have been in contact with Italian outfit Fiorentina with a formal offer for defender Marcus Alonso.
Alonso made 20 appearances on loan at the Stadium of Light last season and impressed with his performances, impressed enough in fact to tempt Gus Poyet to try and get his signature and move him to Wearside on a permanent deal.
Word ha it that the 23-year-old has also been attracting interest from West Ham United and Swansea City, but Sunderland are getting in first after the player told Fiorentina he wants to leave the club.

Yes, great move. Now get Borini and a couple more and we can play football again. Would like to see Wickham stay though
I’ll believe it when he’s holding up the shirt to the cameras
