Sunderland are hopeful that they can wrap up a deal that will bring Jermaine Defoe to the Stadium of Light very shortly.

It is understood that the two parties are sorting out a deal which would bring the 32 year old back to the Premier League after an absence of 11 months.

The deal could rely on current Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore going the opposite way to, but agreement must go through the complications of the MLS which operates an allocation process and they must come up with something that Altidore will agree with.

Despite the possible setbacks, Sunderland are hoping that a deal can be reached within the next 24 hours as they see Defoe as the difference in being involved in a relegation fight or not.

Defoe coming to the Stadium of Light would be fantastic but I reckon he will end up at QPR with Harry Redknapp

Dont agree, I think that the man is coming here unless MLS bugger things up in which case I will cry and get my Championship map book out.

QPR have more strikers than the miners did, cant see them wanting him. Although you never know with Arry

  • Dirty Dave says:

A big fee and 80 grand a week wages is too much, especially for a 32 year old

  • idle eric says:

Looks like its happening to me and 80g is not a great lot to spend on wages as that useless fat *****er altidore is on 60 g
