Sunderland’s new signing Wahbi Khazri says that the fact that the Black Cats are in such relegation trouble was not going to put him off making the move on transfer deadline day.
The midfielder was at Bordeaux in the French good weather before deciding to make the move to rainy Wearside for a fee of 9 million quid.
Whazri made the move even though there was interest from Everton and Sevilla in Spain and after the display against Manchester City on Tuesday night he feels confident that the club can avoid the drop into the Championship.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Whazri said: ‘When you get the chance to join a great club like Sunderland, I was eager to come. ‘The situation in the league was not a problem for me.
‘Obviously, it’s very serious. But if we can get a couple of victories then it’s completely possible that we can avoid relegation. ‘We’ve got two important matches coming up against Liverpool and Manchester United.’
