Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has told his players that he wants more from them as he prepares his side to do battle with Swansea on Wednesday night.

Sunderland were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, but before that they brought a run of five straight defeats to an end with a vital win over Aston Villa.

And ahead of tonight’s game, Sunderland are poised to announce the signing of Senegal striker Dame N’Doye, a player that Big Sam sees as a goal scorer and God knows the team needs goals.

N’Doye was set to finalise his loan move to Sunderland on Tuesday, another acquisition Jan Kirchoff who could well go straight into the side for the game against Swansea, depending on whether or not John O’Shea recovers from a calf injury picked up against Arsenal at the weekend.

was at the Stadium of Light Academy on Monday to finalise his move from Turkish club Trabzonspor after making a positive impact for Hull last season, while recent arrival, Jan Kirchoff, could make his debut if skipper John O’Shea fails to shake off the calf strain that forced him off at Arsenal.

Allardyce told ESPN: ‘Our frailty is not having the ability of going into a game and making sure we don’t lose it.

‘(On Wednesday) it’s like the Villa game but slightly different in that we’re the Aston Villa in this game. Swansea are slightly ahead of us and when we played Villa we were slightly ahead of them.

‘We’ve got to make sure on Wednesday night, at the very least, that Swansea have not gained any points on us.’

Most important game that we have had for a long time, we must not lose tonight or I think that will be it for us.
