There’s been plenty names linked with the vacant Sunderland post and here we continue to ask fans over the country about the Black Cats managerial hot-list.

Here we feature the outside chances: Peter Taylor, Tony Mowbraw, Billy Davies, Craig Levein and Paul Simpson.

Peter Taylor:

?No offence to you but if he did leave, I could only see him leaving for a Premiership club or England – not another Championship club.

?Taylor is (should) be very highly regarded around Hull. He finally got us out of the basement division and then got us promoted again – our first manager to acheive back to back pormotions.

?He would be a very good manager for you in that he is very highly regarded in the footballing world. Sorry – but I just can’t see you getting him, or Taylor wanting to leave for anywhere apart from England’

Tony Mowbray:

?When named Hibs manager, just about everyone was in shock as he had no previous management experience but was thought of as a good, young coach.

‘The board have made a great decision and I think he’ll be here for a while however as he is currently concentrating on increasing the contracts of the main core of the team with no doubt more arrivals coming soon.’
ackeygraham, Hibs

Billy Davies:

?Davies is the master of the team ethic. Exciting young signings aside, it is the single most important thing he’s brought to the job. As a keen student of the game, he’s always interested in trying new things, but has a firm belief in the old addage of consistency being the key.

‘He often has his eye on experienced players, but sometimes struggles to bring them in and instead favours young prospects. Billy has a brilliant eye for a star youngsters (Nugent, Stock, etc…) and hopefully that will reap dividends. He’ll want to see them develop under him.

‘He’s made no secret of his ambitious nature, however; describing the links to the Rangers job some months back as a ‘tremendous honour’. But he’s not finished here yet, and Sunderland would be a sideways step at best for someone who has developed an exciting, talented squad here at Deepdale.’
celaycock, Preston

Craig Levein:

?I cannot imagine Craig Levein easily getting another job in the top two divisions of English football at least until he proves himself somewhere else first.

‘The basic concept of his managerial approach at Leicester was fine…get yourself a group of young, hungry players, develop them over three years and end up, not only with a useful team but a fistful of saleable assets.

‘Trouble was, putting it into practice and making it work.’
Thracian, Leicester

Paul Simpson:

?We were bottom of league two by 12 points when Paul Simpson took over as player-manager and since then he’s performed miracles for us, bringing us back into the football league and now we’re looking good for promotion to league one, with your ex-player Bridges is looking a class act.

?Not quite sure if Simpson would be up to managing at such a high level and under the expectations at Sunderland, we would prefer it if he did so with us!’
Seb, Carlisle
