Sunderland boss Gus Poyet may try to bring Sung-Yueng Ki to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis in January according to reports.

The 24 year old came to Sunderland in the summer, signed on loan by Paolo Di Canio, but did not look that good when he first arrived.

But under the leadership of Gus Poyet, the player is starting to shine and the manager has hinted that he would make enquiries about turning the loan move into a permanent one.

Speaking to the Journal, the Sunderland boss said: ‘He (Ki) plays the type of football I really admire. He has the ability to pass the ball with just one touch and change from one side to the other or run with the ball and have a shot with either foot.

‘If he believes he can do a bit of the work the other way, the defensive way, he is a player who can give us the lot. It is still early doors (in terms of his future), and I don`t know how expensive he is, but we will see.’

Ki has made eight appearances for Sunderland since his arrival at the club, seven of those eight being at home.
