Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is only too well aware that he has become the first Toon manager ever to lead his side into four straight defeats against the neighbours.

‘We should be sitting here as winners but we have lost.’ – Toon boss Alan Pardew.

He said that it is something that he will just have to live with after Adam Johnson kept his cool and grabbed all the points for Sunderland right at the death of the game on Sunday.

He told reporters: ‘Losing four times in a row against Sunderland is a tag that is going to stick on me now so I will have to wear it.

‘It wasn’t our day. Criticism that might come my way or the teams way, we will have to accept.’

However, even though his side were put to the sword again by the Black Cats, the Newcastle boss admitted that he was proud of his players for the effort and commitment they put into the game.

He continued: ‘I am proud of how the team approached the game today. You are pushing and we wanted to win – we would take the draw now but if you draw without pushing for the win you would be disappointed.

‘Maybe we pushed a bit too hard but I am not going to criticise my players. They put in everything they could.

‘We should be sitting here as winners but we have lost.’
