Following yesterday’s goalless draw at the Britannia Stadium, Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill felt his side worth ‘worthy of a point’ in a game of few chances.
Hosts Stoke City came close on a handful of occasions, whilst Steven Fletcher wasted Sunderland’s best chance in the second-half.
A point did neither side any favours, and speaking afterwards to safc.com, O’Neill said he was happy to take something from the game:
“In a game where there weren`t that many chances I thought we were worthy of the point,’ said the Ulsterman.
“But it was tough. Like every game we`ve played in this season, we were presented with problems that we`ve had to overcome and I think we`re getting there.
O’Neill continued:
“I`m happy with the point after the way the game transpired. Stoke is a difficult place to come to.”
Sunderland host Aston Villa next Saturday at the Stadium of Light.
