Sunderlands on loan Ghanain star, John Mensah will miss the next three weeks of the season after tearing a groin muscle.
The injury happened in the first half of the West Brom defeat on Saturday and he was immediately replaced by Anton Ferdinand.
Sunderland could be reliant on moving Nedum Onuoha to centre half to partner Michael Turner, as Ferdinand also picked up an injury on Saturday.
