January signing Stephane Sessegnon hasn`t enjoyed the best of starts to his Sunderland career. Since joining from Paris Saint-Germain, the Black Cats have only picked up one point out of a possible 24.

Already some fans are questioning Steve Bruce`s decision to purchase the Benin international and some have written him off. Viewers of French football will tell you that Sessegnon hasn`t become a bad player overnight. The midfielder is clearly talented and possesses great skill, he maybe on the small side, but his low centre of gravity counteracts that.

Sessegnon had a real baptism of fire in making his debut against Chelsea, a spirited Sunderland side succumbed to the champions, who were immense on the night. The subsequent fixtures promised to be extremely tough, but Bruce surely would have hoped for a better points return. With every defeat, the morale of the side took a hit.

To expect a player who has just moved from a different country and trying to adapt to a new league, to shine in a confidence sapped team is very unfair. The game against West Brom could have been the perfect opportunity for Sessegnon to find his feet; instead, he was introduced when the team were in another losing position. Poor management. He`s not a world beater, but he`s a good player, don`t write him off yet.
