Sunderland Manager Gus Poyet actually described himself as ‘fed up’ with his side after yet another mistake cost Sunderland dearly against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.

This time it was Lee Catermole who was guilty of not paying full attention when he lost the ball on the edge of the box for Gabriel Agbonlahor to round the keeper and put the game out of reach of the home side.

Poyet told Sky Sports News: ‘The mistake completely changed the game. Always something happens and I’m getting a little bit fed up.’

Poyet also pointed out that the fans, although they were behind their team, were getting a bit frustrated as Sunderland did not look like they were rushing into looking for an equaliser. He believed that there was tension in the stands.

He added: ‘There was plenty of time but they (the fans) are not used to watching a team passing the ball and controlling the game.

‘The relationship after the mistake between the players and the fans wasn’t great. There were nerves in the stands and that transmitted to the players, who started to play too quick.’
