Steven Fletcher was back on the goal trail again when he hit his first in six months at Chelsea on Sunday, but it didn’t get Sunderland a point.

It was always going to be a difficult game at Chelsea, but boss Dick Advocaat had urged his players to put on a bit of a show.

And it looked like the instructions had sunk in when Fletcher, who must be worried about his own future with the club, nodded Sunderland in front with his first goal since November when he netted twice at Crystal Palace.

Chelsea let Sunderland have their fun and then Diago Costa levelled from the penalty spot and then Loric Remy finished off the Black Cats with a double.

Fletcher told reporters: “Yes, it`s been a while, so it`s good to get on the scoresheet.

“We knew going there that it was going to be hard, with them winning the league.

“They keep the ball for fun, and they`re nice to watch, even when you`re playing against them.

“But I thought we put in a good performance.”
