On-loan Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner will be out ‘for a while’ according to Martin O’Neill following a facial injury picked up against Swansea City.
The big Dane left the field after just 12 minutes after a collision between his face and the boot of Swans defender, Angel Rangel.
Twenty-four year-old Bendtner suffered multiple facial injuries in the clash, including a broken nose.
Bendtner will now miss Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough as well as the Premier League games against Norwich and Stoke.
Speaking to The Sunderland Echo, Martin O’Neill explained:
“He`s got a bit more than a broken nose.
“It`s difficult to put a timescale on it, but it`s going to be lengthy.
“But he`s going to be out for a number of weeks now which is definitely a blow to us.
“He has a few cracks and we just have to bide our time with that.’
Whilst the news is a blow for Bendtner, it couldn’t come at a better time for Frazier Campbell who played and started for the reserves against Bolton earlier in the week.
Campbell should be fit enough for a place on the bench in the near future.
