How to get to The Sunderland Stadium of Light by car, train, boat or plane…

Car

Travelling by car, head for the A1. From the A1, exit at the A690 Durham/Sunderland exit. After approximately 4 miles, turn left onto the A19 (signposted Tyne Tunnel).

Keep in the left hand lane and take the sliproad signposted Washington/Sunderland onto the bridge over the river Wear. Turn right onto the A1231 (signposted Washington/Sunderland) stay on this road, keep to the left hand lane and go straight through 4 roundabouts following signs for B1289 (Roker). Continue straight on this road and the stadium will come into view.

Train

The ground is a mere 10 minute walk from the station. Exit the station between WHSmith and the bakery, turn left and walk down High Street West. Turn left again into Fawcett Street. This leads to the Wear Bridge from where you will see the stadium. Cross the bridge, and turn left into Millennium Way. Follow the crowd!

Boat

Assuming you’re arriving from Scandinavia or Holland, you will be arriving at the ferry port in North Shields. In which case, take the 10 minute walk to Percy Main metro station. From here you can take the metro to Sunderland.

Plane

The nearest airport is Newcastle International. There is a metro station in the airport itself, from here you can take a metro to Sunderland, a journey which will last approximately 30/40minutes.
