Lee Cattermole put in what Gus Poyet described as an ‘inspirational performance’ against West Brom at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night.
Cattermole played a major part in the victory that saw the Black Cats safe for another season in the Premier League and much further if Gus Poyet is to stay.
Catts was substituted late on and the crowd showed their appreciation of his performance with a standing ovation.
Poyet told the club’s official website: “That was Lee at his best, enjoying an important role in the team and giving everything, because that`s how he is as a player.
“He has been very important for us.”
