Relegated Cardiff City are trying still to ward off attempts from Sunderland to land Jordon Mutch.

Sunderland have already been sniffing around and last month Cardiff said there was no truth in the rumours that Mutch would be coming to Wearside after tabling a £1.5 million bid.

But the Echo says that a bid of £3.5 million has been rejected by the Welsh outfit and Sunderland are now contemplating whether to put in a larger offer for a player who is in the final year of his current contract.

Rumour has it that there is a buy out figure written into the player’s contract and no offer but one that will trigger the clause will be entertained.

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer is very keen to keep Mutch who he sees as a major part of his plans to return to the top flight after one season.
