Liam Bridcutt is hoping that he gets a regular spot in Sunderland’s starting 11 in the future after getting a taste of top class football at Arsenal on Saturday.

Bridcutt was back in the side after Gus Poyet saw who the referee was on Saturday and decided not to play Lee Cattermole to make sure he was not suspended for next week’s League Cup final at Wembley.

The cup final is a game that Bridcutt cannot play in after becoming cup-tied with Brighton earlier in the season, but he does want to play more games so that he can get used to the step up from Championship football.

Bridcutt told reporters: “It`s difficult for me, but they`re working me hard during the week when I`ve not got a game coming up.

“I`m enjoying it (the Premier League) and learning all the time, and that`s all I can ask for, even though the result we had at Arsenal was disappointing.

“But 100 per cent, you learn a lot against a team like Arsenal.”
