BBC Sport have published a story claiming that Sunderland rejected an offer from Celtic for the striker, a move that Celtic had been linked with making all of the summer.
It was thought that the Black Cats would have been interested in listening to any potential deal, but the move was made too late, by then the club had decided that they wanted to keep Fletcher rather than let him go either for a loan spell or on a permanent basis.
