Behind Enemy Lines – Part 18

TIME TO PUSH ON
As we seal our fourth consecutive year in the top flight now is the time to push on and make a real push for the top 10. It’s not time to talk of Europe yet, that’s still a few years away but there’s no reason why we all can’t start talking about establishing SAFC as a top half club..and for us supporters who were there for the embarassing record 19 and 15 point seasons, that would be something great to celebrate. Steve Bruce has said over the past few days that he is happy with the general strength of the squad, which i agree with. We’re just about there in terms of a good spine and squad strength and as Bruce also said, it’s time to just add some real quality and class here and there. As well as tying up deals for Alan Hutton & John Mensah, a new left back and new left/right winger should be the priority. Hopefully we can attract the type of player we need at the club. Paraguayian, Cristian Riveros could be an exciting new addition and we are apparently close to tying up a deal up to bring him across from Mexico. These could be the most exciting times in a lifetime for our supporters.

BURNLEY NO PUSHOVERS
Burnley come to the SoL on Saturday, knowing that failure to win will almost certainly end any hope of survival this year. For that very reason, this could be the most difficult match we have played in for some time, especially coming on the back of a terrific 4-1 defeat of Hull last weekend. It’s important our players don’t begin to think it’s holiday time as Burnley’s will be scrapping for every single ball, egged on by a large away following. Saying all that though, a certain Mr Bent will know this is a glorious chance to send Fabio Capello another reminder for South Africa. I have a feeling Bruce will go with his fringe players for the remaining games and also give Cana a run out to see if he can regain some of his early season form.

Prediction: SAFC 2 Burnley 0

THEY’RE BACK!
Harper is by far the best English ‘keeper. Why can’t Fabio pick Championship players for the World Cup!? Easy six points next season in the derbies. I wonder how many we will beat Sunderland by next year? Yes, you’ve guessed it. This is a selection of quotes in the last few weeks from Magpies where I work. They just don’t learn do they? Unfortunately for them, they probably needed a good two or three seasons in the Championship to settle down their thoughts that they ‘will always be the north east’s number one.’ Sadly the deluded folk from up the road are straight back up and no doubt soon entertaining thoughts that they will be in Europe before long!

BET OF THE WEEKEND
Take Leeds to move a step closer to promotion from League One with a win at Gillingham. Pair them up with Everton to win in at Blackburn.
