Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has been speaking about the reason that Dame N’Doye stayed on the bench in the game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Black Cats had to settle for a point following a 1-1 draw with the Cherries even though both sides had chances to wrap the game up.

Many watching the game were expecting to see fresh legs brought on to aid the Sunderland attack, but N’Doye remained on the bench as Allardyce decided to let Jermain Defoe complete the full 90 minutes.

Allardyce, talking to the Chronicle, said that he did not feel that it was the right thing to do as it meant bringing off either Defoe or a midfielder, something which Allardyce was not able to take the gamble on.

He told the publication: ‘The only way I could have (introduced N`Doye from the bench) was to bring Jermain (Defoe) off and I didn`t want to risk that.

‘I couldn`t risk playing two up front because the midfield battle was three v three and it had to stay like that. If we had diluted ourselves in that area we might have given Bournemouth better opportunities to score and we couldn`t afford to lose the game. But he`ll play sooner rather than later, I think.’

Its no use borrowing a player and then not using him when you get the chance, Defoe was never gonna score
