Sunderland are back in action for the first time since Sundays defeat at the hands of Bradford City in the FA Cup and Connor Wickham says the side have a point to prove.

“It will be a tough game but it is one we can look forward to and hopefully use it as a bounce-back game to kick-start our form.” – Connor Wickham

Today’s game against West Brom is very important to both teams, Tony Pulis has the Baggies ticking over nicely at the moment since he took over the running of things, but his counterpart Gus Poyet has to lift his side from off the floor and ready to fight for the three points on offer.

Wickham says that the team are certain of what they have to do in today’s clash that will lift the Black Cats with a much needed win and also go some way to getting a large portion of the fans back onside.

Before today’s game Sunderland sit two points away from the relegation zone, without a win in three games, and maybe facing a side that has lost just once under the leadership of Pulis without their main striker Jermain Defoe.

Speaking to Sunderland’s official website, Wickham said: ‘West Brom are on a roll at the moment so we know that it won’t be easy but we have got a point to prove following the result last weekend.

‘The boys are strong and they know what we need to do to pick ourselves up and move forward. As I said, it will be a tough game but it is one we can look forward to and hopefully use it as a bounce-back game to kick-start our form.’
