Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has moved his attentions to Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck the Daily Mail tells us.

The Black Cats had hoped to bring in Italian international Fabio Borini, who was with Sunderland last season and did very well, but after agreeing a fee with Liverpool they remain frustrated in their attempts to get Borini to sign.

Welbeck would not get the guarantee of first team football every week at Old Trafford, but no doubt would at the Stadium of Light so the move may be a tempting one for the 23 year old.

And Welbeck knows his way around the set up at Sunderland from a previous loan spell.

Hull City had reportedly bid £12 million for the England international earlier in the month which came to nothing, but Sunderland may find that its worth taking a shot.
