Sunderland have been dealt another blow with the news that forward Duncan Watmore will miss the rest of the season.

Watmore had to be taken off 83 minutes into the 2-1 home win over Leicester City on Saturday with a knee injury, scans later revealed that the 22-year-old had suffered damage to his cruciate knee ligaments, The Sunderland Echo reported.

Manager David Moyes has suffered more than his fair share of injuries to his squad this season and although he has had players return to fitness recently, there are still long-term injuries to Paddy McNair and Lynden Gooch to cope with.

Speaking to www.safc.com, Moyes said: “The team is getting better but, unfortunately, we`ve picked up another injury with Duncan.

“It doesn`t look great. Duncan has been playing well.”

Things have taken a turn for the better at Sunderland of late, three wins from four games have seen them move up to 18th place in the table after being cut off at the bottom for quite a while.
