The Premier League season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Tottenham temporarily cut the gap on Chelsea to four points. But that was restored to seven when the Blues later won.
Sunderland slipped closer to relegation, as did Middlesbrough with Swansea – as things stand – also dropping out of the Premier League.

Three goals in the 11 minutes towards the end of the first half set second-placed Tottenham on their way to a 4-0 win over Watford – taking Spurs to within four points of leaders Chelsea, at the time. Despite a first win in three the Hornets are well set in 10th.
A first win if five for Manchester City keeps them well placed to see off rivals Manchester United or Arsenal to finish in a Champions League place. Hull, going into this off the back of successive wins, retain a place outside the relegation zone following a 3-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
Second-bottom Middlesbrough missed the chance to boost their survival hopes when held by Burnley – now eight points clear of the bottom three – at the Riverside Stadium. Boro, following this 0-0 draw, are six points behind Hull, 17th.
A first half lead was lost by Stoke when Liverpool – with two goals in two second half minutes – came from behind to win 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium, increasing the likelihood the Reds will finish in the top four. The Potters have now lost four in a row, dropping from ninth to 13th in recent weeks.
Ninth-placed West Brom, who had their advantage over Southampton – a place behind them in 10th – reduced to four points, are now winless in three games. The Saints’ 1-0 win at the Hawthorns extended their own unbeaten run to three, improving the likelihood they will finish in the top 10.
West Ham’s much-needed 1-0 win over Swansea should be the one that ensures the Hammers stay in the Premier League, moving them eight points clear of the Swans – now five without a win and two points from safety.
Bournemouth’s first defeat in six was suffered against Champions-elect Chelsea at Dean Court in Saturday’s evening kick off. The Blues’ 3-1 win restored a seven point advantage over second-placed Tottenham, responding to Spurs’ earlier victory.
Sunday’s lunchtime kick off saw Sunderland – 10 points from safety with seven to play – pushed closer to Championship relegation when the 10 men – having played the closing minutes, and whole of the second period, a man light – were beaten by Manchester United 3-0 at the Stadium of Light. United, fifth, moved to within four points of Manchester City in the final Champions League spot.
Everton are still in the battle for a European finish following a victory over Leicester – beaten for the first time under Craig Shakespeare, winning the previous five – at Goodison Park. Having taken a first minute lead the Toffees – three points off Manchester United, fifth – slipped two one down, inside 10 minutes, before roaring back into the game to win 4-2.
