Sunderland had two changes to the playing staff on transfer deadline day.
Former Blackcat George McCartney rejoined the team two years since leaving for an undisclosed fee from West Ham. McCartney has signed a five year contract with the club and becomes Keane`s tenth signing of the summer.
The other news is that Danny Higginbotham has joined his old club Stoke for an undisclosed fee.

I`m delighted to have McCartney back we have been missing a natural left back for sometime now. I was unhappy when he left for West Ham as he was one of our better players.
It`s been a good bit of business for Keane to get McCartney in and allowing Higginbotham to leave.
