Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood was not the happiest of men after the 2-2 draw with Sunderland at Villa Park on Saturday.
According to the former midfielder, who was speaking to the club’s official website, Villa should have been awarded a penalty late on in the game when Carles Gil went down under a challenge by Younes Kaboul with just twelve minutes left on the clock.
But referee Robert Madley booked Gil for simulation, much to the annoyance of Sherwood who injured himself during a tantrum.
Sherwood said: “I think it’s a penalty otherwise he just rolls it in the net.
“Why would he go down? He’s clean through. I have asked Carles in there and he said there was contact. I think Younes tries to pull out and stops.
“If there is contact I think you’re entitled to go to ground. We would then have perhaps got what we deserved.”
