Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood was not the happiest of men after the 2-2 draw with Sunderland at Villa Park on Saturday.

According to the former midfielder, who was speaking to the club’s official website, Villa should have been awarded a penalty late on in the game when Carles Gil went down under a challenge by Younes Kaboul with just twelve minutes left on the clock.

But referee Robert Madley booked Gil for simulation, much to the annoyance of Sherwood who injured himself during a tantrum.

Sherwood said: “I think it’s a penalty otherwise he just rolls it in the net.

“Why would he go down? He’s clean through. I have asked Carles in there and he said there was contact. I think Younes tries to pull out and stops.

“If there is contact I think you’re entitled to go to ground. We would then have perhaps got what we deserved.”

Did you think it was a penalty? Did Villa or Sunderland deserve to win or was a draw the right result, leave a comment below.

“If there is contact you are entitled to dive” is how I translate that. Gil instigated the contact. He went down as its bred into players nowadays to get opposition sent off instead of score! If you can get someone sent off and win a penalty even better! Although you have Agbonlahor at the clubs who is great at diving!

Seems to me like he is saying that it it okay to take a tumble so long as you make it look good. .. Pleased he got injured trying to be clever with the water bottles.
