Seventy3 Launch Party A Success

March 16th 2011 – Seventy3 Launch Party

As you are all probably aware by now (there is not a corner of the globe our publicity push has not reached) a new SAFC fanzine hit the shelves this week and I was lucky enough to be involved in the launch. It must be said it was a very prestigious launch at that.

The Seventy3 revolution has been quite phenomenal thus far and the good news is? we still have the best part of launch week ahead of us!

Yesterday, we kicked things off with the official launch at Waterstones in the Bridges, Sunderland. Myself, alongside Micky Gray and Nicky Summerbee were on hand to sign copies of the new publication for a wave of demanding fans who all seemed genuinely delighted to be meeting two huge Sunderland legends. One guy even pulled a ‘Micky Gray coat hanger` out of his rucksack which he asked the left back to sign, this was probably the strangest moment of the day, not just for the watching audience but probably Micky himself. The Sunderland Echo was on hand to take some snaps which should be in the papers soon so look out for us. We were also visited by the Look North film crew which was broadcast this evening. Come five o`clock we had sold a vast amount of copies but the day did not end there, for, soon as we completed the signing we were in a manic rush to get home, suited and booted and ready for the Chesters V.I.P launch party to meet the BBC Newcastle Talksport team who were broadcasting live from a section of the pub. As a host of old footy-faces descended on the venue and gathered around the bar (where else?) the local drinkers were realising they had picked quite a night to consume a a few pints in their local. Among the guests were Bobby Kerr, EricGates, Joe Allen, Marco Gab, Tony Jeffries and of course Gray and Summerbee.
Next came the interviews which saw most of the above names sit down for a live chat, myself included. It was a good experience. I have taken parting radio interviews in the past but this was me losing my ‘live-on-air-virginity` which was quite daunting knowing how slack my mouth can be at times! LOL (The interviews are available to listen too on BBC Iplayer I believe)

Eventually we headed to the upstairs function room where the party really got under way. Gray, Buzza and Jaffa provided the entertainment with a talk-in, all three of whom were in great form throughout, while the more glamorous and better looking entertainment was provided by the Seventy3 models.

My personal highlight of the night was getting to meet Bobby Kerr who was delighted to sign my eulogy-like article I penned in his appreciation.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening staged by the Seventy3 squad and a night that will live in the memories of those present for years to come.

And as the evening drew to a close, we concluded it with a classical happy ending which saw a large group of models; ex-players and writers head off in to the City centre for a good drink and a promise to keep the Seventy3 celebrations carrying on deep into the night.
