Sunderland’s appeal against Stephane Sessegnon’s red card at Aston Villa on Monday night has been dismissed.

The Benin international’s appeal was unsuccessful and therefore the former Paris St. Germain attacker will miss Sunderland’s three remaining Barclays Premier League fixtures.

Sessegnon was dismissed for a challenge on Villa midfielder Yacouba Sylla, where he appeared to jump into the tackle on the Frenchman.

As the only ‘number 10′ in the Black Cats’ squad, Sessegnon’s unavailability is a new headache for head coach Paolo Di Canio, who will have to decide whether to re-shuffle the side or change system ahead of Monday’s visit from Stoke City.
