Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has been handed a double boost ahead of Tuesday’s cup semi final first leg against Manchester United in that Wes Brown and John O’Shea are both fit for action.

Both are back in action and Poyet believes that it could give his side that extra something as they try to take an advantage to Old Trafford for the second leg of the round in their quest to reach Wembley.

O’Shea is returning from a four game absence and Poyet is delighted that his defensive pair are able to start against their old club.

The former Red Devil’s duo are fit to face their old club, with O’Shea returning from a four-game lay-off, and Poyet believes that having the defensive pair in the side will significantly improve their chances of reaching a Wembley final.

Holding a pre-match press conference, Poyet said: ‘It’s experience. We are playing against a team that they know very well, they have been in this situation before, semi-finals.

‘When they play together, they understand each other. We were doing very well and not conceding goals at all with those two, so it’s clear at the moment that if they are fit, they have got a little bit more of a chance than the rest.’
