Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has let it be known that he is less than impressed with Stoke City manager Mark Hughes over the courtship of two of his players.

Lee Cattermole and Steven Fletcher have both been in the press named as targets of Stoke and this is causing a bit of friction with Poyet, just ahead of Sunderland’s home game against the Potters at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday.

Poyet hit out telling reporters: ‘I am pleased that in the local newspaper, we didn’t throw any rumours about us being interested in any Stoke player, because that’s what they have done for the last week.

‘No-one from Stoke, directors or anyone from them, has made any formal approach or any offer, so for them to be linked with two very important players for us before the game is a little bit disappointing.’

Hughes has had his eye on Catts for some time and he had said to the local Stoke press last week that a move for the player would probably have to be put off as the Black Cats reached Wembley.

It’s just the last couple of days that the Potteries outfit have been linked with Fletch.

Poyet added: ‘He [Hughes] didn’t call me. Some people would say the manager normally would call to say when they want a player of the other team.

‘But he didn’t call me, of that I can assure you.’

The goings on should add a bit more spice to tomorrow night’s six pointer.

No need to go off on one about it, I’ll bet Poyet would do it if he had the chance, its just part of football

Lets just do our talking on the pitch because if we can’t beat Stoke at home then quite frankly we don’t deserve to stay up and it wont matter who plays for us then, they will want out if we go down..
