Sunderland defender John O’Shea has confirmed that there was something of a player’s revolt that resulted in Paolo Di Canio losing his job as the Black Cats boss.

Di Canio was removed from the manager’s post at the Stadium of Light just a day after his side had lost heavily at West Brom, at the time there was certainly plenty of rumours about players having their say.

Now the skipper has admitted that some of the players got together and gave the club their views on Di Canio and his style of management, soon after that, Kevin Ball was place in temporary charge of the team.

When asked if players stepped in to get something done about the Italian, O’Shea told the Shields Gazette: ‘That was obviously done. But we have to move on now.

‘Because of the position we’re in in the league, we can’t keep going back to it.
‘We’ve got some difficult months ahead.

‘Whoever comes in, whether it’s Bally or a new manager, we’ve got tough times ahead.

‘We have to stick together and if we keep going back to it, it’ll soon be too hard to pull back from where we are.’
