Martin O’Neill understandably cut a delighted figure at full-time today and was in a good mood as he spoke to the press post-match for the first-time.

With late goals from David Vaughan and Seb Larsson securing a sensational last-ditch victory to move the Black Cats up to 16th, O’Neill had every reason to be happy.

Speaking to The Official Site, the Ulsterman said:

‘There’s nothing restores confidence more quickly than winning games and you may say we got a little bit of luck with getting that very, very late goal.

But we deserved it. We deserved to win today. I don’t think there’s any question about that, we came from behind to win the game – I couldn’t have asked for any more.’

Reserving special praise for match-winner Larsson, O’Neill continued:

‘It was a great goal from Larsson; it was very difficult but I could just sense a bit of confidence about him when he stepped up to do it.’

Out of the relegation zone and up to 16th, Sunderland now head to Spurs for another Sunday afternoon clash at White Hart Lane.
