Martin O’Neill was gushing in his praise of his side after a 3-2 win at QPR yesterday evening.

The Black Cats took a 2-0 lead through Nicklas Bendtner and Stephane Sessegnon before goals from Heidar Helguson and Jamie Mackie drew the hosts level.

However, a strike just one minute from time from Wes Brown handed O’Neill’s troops their second victory from three games under the new boss.

Speaking to the Official Site afterwords, O’Neill was full of praise for the side:

‘I’m delighted with the team; delighted with their character and performance and obviously that is augmented by the tremendous support of the crowd.

‘It’s fantastic to win, a game at 2-2 is in the balance, but we fought back and won the game.’

O’Neill also reserved praise for the travelling Black Cat’s support, with 1200 making the trip to the capital four days before Christmas:

‘That’s twice now they’ve [the fans] made the long journey to the capital – on Sunday and again [to Loftus Road]. It’s remarkable and let me tell you, really appreciated.’

Sunderland are at home on Boxing Day as they play host to struggling Everton.
