Manager Simon Grayson was delighted with the attitude and understanding of the Sunderland side as we took victory over Norwich City on Sunday.

Heading to Carrow Road for the game at the weekend, Sunderland took the three one victory on the day to register our first three points of the 2017/18 campaign and rather strangely we find ourselves sitting in sixth place in the table.

Goals on the day came from a Lewis Grabban brace with Aiden McGeady also finding the net.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game to give his thoughts, Grayson credited the side for executing his gameplan to perfection.

‘We always knew it was going to be a tough game because they have some very good players, so you have to give credit to our players for carrying out the instructions we’ve laid out in the last 48 hours. We knew they would have possession due to playing three at the back but we were happy for them to have it in certain areas, and ultimately we knew we would get opportunities on the counter attack.’

Grayson went on to say that going three nil up was brilliant on the day and although he was disappointed to see them claw one back, he’s more than happy to take the positives.

‘To go 3-0 up was a good situation and despite the goal it was a very pleasing afternoon for everyone. Vaughany does deserve immense credit because he puts in an incredible shift. They (Vaughan and Grabban) also get back and help the team with the work ethic they’ve both got.’

He added.

‘We’ve always said that we have players who can hurt the opposition and you’ve seen that today with two great goals. Overall it was a pleasing afternoon.’

Grayson will no doubt be hoping it’s the first three points of many more to come.
